I'll take it!

Enough already with glorifying the same old boring body types.

I'm a truly terrible photographer (anyone I shoot instantly gets satan eyes, and a lot of my pictures have a thumb in them).

So let me know. No nudity needed (in fact, let's say none encouraged). And we'll meet at a nice bar. There are a lot of cannibals in NY and I don't need that kind of hassle.

I particularly want to hear from anyone who thinks they're not attractive enough for gay society.

Project Desire

This project, in collaboration with the New York City Department of Mental Health & Hygiene, is a mixed-methods study to better understand the increase in HIV incidence in young men who have sex with men (YMSM) in New York City.

Over the Summer of 2008, CHIBPS surveyed 540 YMSM and we’re now launching the focus group phase of Project Desire.

We’re looking for 60 young gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men to tell us what’s on their mind regarding HIV in NYC.

In return for completing 3 confidential focus groups
(1 hour a week, for 3 weeks), participants will receive $60 and dinner.

Please distribute our cards to any clients, patients, friends, or colleagues who may be interested. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our team at 212-998-5600, or visit our website at www.chibps.org

This project has been approved by the NYU Institutional Review Board as well as the NYC Dept. of Mental Health and Hygiene Institutional Review Board.

Note from Sylvia's Place

Dear Friends and Supporters:

Karl was 17 when his father discovered he was gay and threw him out. A special-ed student, Karl’s below-normal IQ, speech, and memory problems made it even harder for him to survive on the streets. He wound up sleeping on the Christopher street piers during the day, when he felt safe, and walking the streets at night, when he did not. Luckily, one of our other residents met Karl and brought him to Sylvia’s Place, our emergency shelter for homeless LGBT youth. Now he has a safe place to live, is back in school, and is receiving support services.

Karl is just one of the more than two hundred youth who will pass through Sylvia’s Place this year, each with their own - often tragic – story and urgent needs. Whether in the middle of the crisis of their first homelessness or turning to us as a last resort while struggling with behavioral issues that have gotten them kicked out of place after place, Sylvia’s Place is frequently their only option. We accept LGBT youth on a walk-in basis, with or without paperwork, late at night or early in the morning, 365 days a year, with no waiting list and no questions asked.

When youth come to us, they get a full range of services, including hot meals, donated clothing, showers, laundry facilities, mental health and medical services, and help with resumes, school placement, and finding permanent housing.

But now I have to ask you to help us help them. Our funding is primarily from government sources, in the form of reimbursement contracts, which means that we have to spend the money up front and then wait to be reimbursed after the fiscal year ends. Due to bureaucratic obstacles, our reimbursement is delayed, and we need to raise $15,000 to keep our doors open until our government funds come through. Please help us to the best of your ability. All contributions are tax deductible. Checks should be payable to MCCNY/Homeless Youth Services and mailed to us at 446 W 36th St, NYC NY 10018.

Thanks so much for caring about our youth!

With PRIDEfest Canceled, No Clear Plan

By: DUNCAN OSBORNE
05/24/2007

Tens of thousands of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered celebrants will arrive in the West Village at the end of this year's June 24 Pride March to find no festival, no vendors selling food or water, and no entertainment and Heritage of Pride (HOP), the group that produces the city's annual pride events, and the police believe that will not create problems.

"We're actually hoping that everything will be fine," Dennis Spafford, HOP's media director, said following a May 23 town meeting.

In late 2006, HOP sought to move the festival that follows the Pride March from June 24 to June 23 and from the West Village to Chelsea. Believing that the city would approve a permit for the move, the non-profit group made no plans for holding the festival in the Village, as it has done for the past 15 years.

The city denied HOP a permit for the new location and date on April 27, just two months before the event, leaving HOP with insufficient time to produce an alternative event. The festival was cancelled on May 11.

"I and the other 17 members of the PRIDEfest committee regret that there won't be a PRIDEfest this year," said Brian O'Dell, the committee's director, at the town meeting.
HOP sought to move to Chelsea and to the day before the annual march because of complaints about the West Village location being crowded, inaccessible to the disabled, and unwelcoming to seniors, children, and families. Additionally, many community groups stopped participating in the festival because their volunteers were exhausted following the march and they could not staff booths.

"PRIDEfest this year was an event that HOP members were finally proud to be involved in," O'Dell said.
With new vendors, more community groups, and designated spaces for children and youth the festival would have been "unlike and better than any of the other 366 street fairs in this city," O'Dell said.

There was some criticism of HOP's effort to move the festival during the town meeting.

"I think it is such arrogance that you had made this decision for hundreds of thousands of us," said one woman during the meeting.

But a major concern was what will those thousands of marchers do when they arrive in the West Village. Another woman said they will not just go home.

"You know that's not going to happen, so what's going to happen?" she asked. "To me, that's a big issue."

A third woman said, "When you finish the float everybody is looking for things to do."

The police department appears to have not considered the changed circumstances that will accompany the end of the march. Detective Thomas Verni, the department's citywide LGBT community liaison, said the department expected people would simply leave.

"My guess would be that since there is no fair a lot of people would stick around for a while and then leave," he said. "That's what we're anticipating."

Verni was accompanied by a second officer from the Community Affairs Bureau and Officer Tim Duffy from the West Village's Sixth Precinct. Verni said the police would remain in the West Village until the crowd dispersed.

"There is no intent for the police department to clear the streets," Verni said.

Duffy said the department had a plan for the event. "Our plan is to have a safe day for everybody," he said.
HOP is seeking, and may yet obtain, the old street fair permit that it has used to mount earlier West Village festivals. If it gets that permit, however, any event that it produces will be "a condensed version of the festival," said Phil Mannino, an HOP co-chair. "It would only be a limited amount, maybe 20 vendors," he said.

"Our hope is if we get this permit people aren't going to be pushed out of the West Village," O'Dell said.

Andrew Velez, a longtime gay and AIDS activist, pressed the HOP representatives to have some sort of event following the march, but after the meeting he said that the group was unresponsive.

"There's no will to absolutely have that event on Sunday and as far as I'm concerned the intent to have that event on Saturday was totally ill-conceived," he said.

Got any clothes you don't wear any more? Extra alarm clock?

They also always need things like toiletries, breakfast foods, and other things everyone needs. It could be as simple as dropping off a couple of boxes of pancake mix. Or a check for someone's certification exam. Or a skateboard. Or someone's first brand new pair of sneakers.

Has anyone else been to Fun on N 4th St in Williamsburg....it is the most bizarre place I have ever been. A trash can with surprisingly delightfull people

I went after reading a review online which was obviously the authors idea of a joke.

It's just about the trashiest bar you can imagine. It is an unbelieveble trachy sleazy hole in the wall, but i apparently was the only person there that noticed. The people there ranged from sophisticated well bathed hipsters to the grungy type. A surprisingly large amount or indie fashionista girls were there too which i thought odd for a place with one wall composed entirely of plywood with red roosetr(cocks) stickers on it and an exposed brick wall with cartoon and oldschool porn projected on it...oh yea did i mention the dancers walking around on the bar making out with people and one that was completely naked carrying on conversations with people.

It was a trash can...but after a few drinks it is so much fun to just look around and observe people and get over the shock of where you actually are. The people are probably the most friendly people I have ever met in NYC and they all seem so out of place in a place like that...but I guess that the whold point of Williamsburg.

Down, Dark, Dirty --- Looking for ideas/collaborators? :)

So, as a former DJ that wants to get back into spinning out tracks and putting a night together that doesn't revolve around Cher and Madge, I am looking for ideas of space that might be keen to hold an all out ROCK/ALT night with a bit of a dirty overtone.

My fondest memories of living in Seattle are all about the Eagle, a lether bar where only rock is played every night. It was hot to get play pool to the mix of new and old stuff, from dragging out Tom Petty and the Stones to new Nine Inch Nails and Gogol Bordello. I refuse to believe NYC can't support something like this.

I throw this out there to see if anyone knows a venue that might be good and open to the idea of a new night of guys (in leather and out) - if just to hang out to some great music that sets the right tone for whatever it is you plan on doing (in your own place or out :) )

If you got ideas, hit me up :)

Thanks!

I don't really have any gay friends so it would be cool to meet and chill with others who like the same things that I do once in a while. Hit me back if interested. Hope to meet some of you soon.

NY media help / Midnight Mass

Hello NY Tribesters,

My name is Peaches Christ and I'll soon be bringing my Midnight Mass show from SF to NYC (4/28-29 & 5/5-6). I'm going to post some information about it below so you understand it better, but I'm looking for your help & advice. I'd like to get word out about the event as much as possible. We're moving two shows and a dozen queens to NYC for two weeks and I want to be sure the right New Yorkers hear about it. It looks like we are going to get a story in HX and we're pitching a story about the event to Time Out NY. Besides the Village Voice, do you have any recommendations for who to send Press Releases to or hit up? Thanks for any help / info!!

Also, any appropriate NY event websites, listings, etc. would be great. See you soon. Info about the event can be found here:
http://www.peacheschrist.com/mmass/index.html

The online Press Release is here:
http://www.peacheschrist.com/press

Sincerely,
Peaches Christ

I will be visitng New York in April or May 2005. Are there venues for gay and bi men where they can have sex with each other. I do not mean bathhouses.
Here in Australia we call them cruise clubs. These venues usually have private rooms and public rooms that are often fitted with slings etc. Some clubs have theme nights for fisting, water sports underwear etc.
web addresses or street addresses would be great.
There is usually a cover charge on entry.
Thanks for you help

my old man and i spent 3 days up at niagara falls last week, gambling, wax museums, wolfgang puck and our 32nd floor room overlooking the falls all came together for a fun few days away. the falls is really worth seeing, felt like the grand canyon sorta. the train ride is long, 10 hours, but we like that. if youre ever in toronto its only a couple hour drive. go in the off season if youre gonna go, the place is very "family friendly" translates to overrun by badly behaved munchkins :)

the area party has been a pretty reliable good time for a while now, they outgrew their east village digs and the fags definitely make the trip up to 39th st to keep all 5 floors of this weekly buzzin. this weekend's party is a birthday celebration for the inexcusable mister formika, cazwell and amanda lepore will both performing along with THEO and the skyscrapers as well as the pretty boys. the basement's the best queer rock dance party i've been to in nyc in a while, these shows should definitely take it up a notch. anybody wanna go?

Hey boys and girls!
I'm a student coming to NYC for my last semester of School. I haven't spent much time in the City before, so I'm looking for some friends to show me around a bit. Beyond that, I'm also looking for a voluteer opportunity with a grassroots HIV/AIDS awareness organization, specifically ones that address the abuse of Crystal Meth within our (gay) community. I'm still just a student, so I don't have any official credentials to work a real "job" but I do have an earnest interest to participate and offer my time in whatever capacity it could be used. If anyone has any ideas of places I could look, I would really appreciate the heads up!
Thanks,
Monkeyji

Biker type guys needed for hot photo shoot today

HOT gay singer Daniel Cartier needs men today. Here's his post. message him (or me and I'll hook you up). here's his post:

NEW YORK CITY...men needed for a VERY racy photoshoot Sunday
Body:	Do you live in New York City?
Are you free Sunday afternoon? Say around 3pm?
Are you a hot, sexy, rough around the edges looking guy?
Do you like the idea of stripping down with a bunch of other hot guys and having your picture taken by a very established New York photographer?

The concept is...1950s biker gangs...The Wild Ones. The Outsiders.
Greasers hanging out in a clubhouse....playing cards in their jockstraps.
Goofing off. Checking each other out. Egging each other on.
Greasers getting frisky with each other because they're bored and horny.
Some poor loner is tied up in the corner naked. Maybe he's from a rival gang??? Maybe he's a kidnap victim?
Occasionally you rough him up a little. Do things to him....you know...to teach him a lesson. Then you go back to playing cards...and you know....other stuff.

By the way...the poor guy tied up in the chair is me.

There will be food and drink for you to enjoy. The whole vibe will be very "let's get into character and see what happens". There's no pay, but who the f*ck cares? It's a hot photoshoot with free booze, food and guys. What more do you want? Prints? Fine...you'll get prints for your portfolios.

I can't tell you who the photographer is....RESPOND TO THIS BULLITEN ONLY IF YOU'RE SERIOUS, and I will forward your response along to him. If he's interested he'll contact you.

Did I forget to mention it's Sunday f*cking afternoon at 3pm?
What the f*ck else could you possibly be doing?

Don't be gay. Come pose naked with me.

xo
Manhattan Center

December 3, 2005

7PM–Midnight

What: Move Against AIDS is a highly energetic and much anticipated fundraising dance-a-thon that is returning to Manhattan on Saturday, December 3, 2005. New York City’s first AIDS Dance-a-thon, launched in 1990, was an all-star show and dance party that immediately galvanized a wide and diverse base of participants. The event’s enthusiastic supporters raised nearly $10 million during the many years that the original event was held. In 2004, nearly 3,000 New Yorkers donned their dancing shoes for Move Against AIDS: Return of the Dance-a-thon, which was held at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan and raised more than $750,000 for Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) and its life saving HIV/AIDS prevention programs and direct services.

Who: More than 3,500 participants are expected to party this year to five hours of music with sets by world renowned club DJ’s Chad Jack, Mary Mac, Tony Moran, Tony Touch and Junior Vasquez, and some premiere musical performances. The event will also include appearances by several special guest hosts, including Wendy Williams. Past celebrity hosts and performers include: Danny Tenaglia, Deborah Harry (Blondie), Doctor Dre, Kool and the Gang, Madonna, Method Man, Rosie Perez, and Salt-N-Pepa,.

How: Participants raise funds for Move Against AIDS by asking friends, family members, co-workers and neighbors to sponsor them. Pre-Registered participants must raise at least $75 to take part in the Dance-a-thon. Register online at www.moveagainstaids.org or by phone at (212) 807-9255.

Sponsors Include: Delta Airlines, NBC, HX Magazine, Michael Palm Foundation, MIX 102.7, Next Magazine, Out, WBLS, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and MAC VIVA GLAM.

About Beneficiaries: GMHC is a not-for-profit, volunteer-supported and community-based organization committed to national leadership in the fight against AIDS. GMHC provides services and programs to over 15,000 men, women and families that are living with or affected by HIV/AIDS in New York City. For more information about GMHC programs and services, please visit www.gmhc.org. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit Community HIV/AIDS Mobilization Project (CHAMP), an organization that is dedicated to training and mobilizing the next generation of HIV/AIDS advocates

About MZA Events: Move Against AIDS, a five-hour dance-a-thon is produced by MZA Events and is one of many events in its long legacy of successful AIDS fundraisers. Over two decades, the AIDS Walks and AIDS Dance-a-thons produced by MZA events have raised nearly $300 million for the life-saving services of GMHC and other leading AIDS charities throughout the United States.

Hey folks,

GLBT Country-western dancing resumes on a weekly basis beginning this Saturday at the Big Apple Ranch. Come join folks for a fun evening of dancing - a great non-pressured alternative to meeting people in bars.

Now's the time to get into the country mood, especially since NYC will be hosting the Country Music Awards in November. Until then, NYC will be gearing up and going country. And for the GLBT community, dancing is a great way to be a part of it.

Each week, beginner lessons start at 8 PM, followed by a weekly line dance lesson at 8:30, followed by open dancing at 9 PM, consisting of a combination of mostly two-stepping, line dancing, east and west coast swing, and an occasional waltz, cha-cha or "other."

Big Apple Ranch meets in the Dance Manhattan Studio at 39 West 19th Street (between 5th and 6th avenues, north side of the street), on the 5th floor. Cost is $10.

For more info, go to: www.bigappleranch.com

Firstly, I'm not involved in any type of Gay screen or Pride scene or anything like that. So guys who are open about being with other guys needs to respect my preference.

Anyway, I'm a friendly and crazy college guy who is looking for a guy that is a guy. I don't want to feel odd with you, I want it to feel natural, as when I'm hanging with my other male friends who are straight.

I'd probably prefer to chat with someone between the ages of 17 to 25. Any race...if you're i not metal, or any rock related genres that's a plus, skaters etc. See my profile for more on me.

I just moved up to Long Island < Shirley , near Brookhaven > to join friends
in preparation for our pilgrimage to Burning Man. I am the lone bi-gay guy in this arrangement. I'm hoping that before long I find a guy in this area to spend some energetic time with.
At this time I have only public-transport and a bicycle to get around with. And I'll be leaving for the burn Aug. 24th to return Sept. 10th.

I'll be looking to meet a guy(s) around here to spend time with.

hey fellas...

i know this place has gotten mixed reviews over the years,
but if i may say so myself... things are starting to change.

i've moved to cherry grove for the summer and
taken up residency as the DJ at THE TIDES
with SWEETIE as my superstar hostess with the mostest. (bosoms!)
friday nights: F-UNDERWEAR! party.
saturday nights: HIGH TIDE/LOW TIDE, our beach version
of the popular saturday night party in the city.

also, DANIEL NARDICIO takes over the PINES PAVILLION
on friday nights with BIG TOP... featuring DJ SAMMY JO.
rotating cast of go-go studs and other new york city nightlife celebrities.
it's not your uncle's fire island anymore.

the beach is gorgeous. the staff is friendly.
bring it!!!!

ahh. nice ring to it, right?
